LFNAlias Version 1.0

User Guide
Normal De-Installation
A normal de-installation of LFNAlias Version 1.0 is essentially a reversal of the installation process and is based on, and utilizes the same Microsoft Installer technology and package as the installation. Consequently, the procedures that have to be executed to remove LFNAlias Version 1.0 depend on which type of installation was performed.

Normal De-Installation of a Per User Installation
A normal removal of a per user installation of LFNAlias Version 1.0 has to be performed under the same user account under which it was installed, and may require elevated privileges (i.e. under some Windows versions an administrator password may have to be provided).
1.  Log on to the user account from which you would like to remove LFNAlias Version 1.0.
2.  Close/terminate all instances of the LFNAlias Version 1.0 application.
3.  Close all LFNAlias Version 1.0 help documents, including all text files, such Readme.txt, etc..
4.  Depending on your Windows version open either the "Programs and Features" or "Software" folder in the Windows Control Panel.
5.  Select/click "SST LFNAlias".
6.  Depending on your Windows version select/click either "remove" or "Uninstall".
7.  Follow the LFNAlias Version 1.0 Setup Wizard's instructions.

Normal De-Installation of a Per Machine Installation
Whereas it is possible to uninstall a per user installation of LFNAlias Version 1.0 as a member of any user group, provided the necessary permissions were (alt. are) granted, the removal of a per machine installation (of LFNAlias Version 1.0) always has to be performed under an administrator account, preferably the account under which it was installed.
1.   Log on to an administrator account.
8.   Log off from the admin account.
9.   Log on to all other accounts under which LFNAlias Version 1.0 may have been executed and perform the following step(s) for/under each of these accounts.
10.  Open regedit.exe (or regedt32.exe) and delete/remove the registry keys designated as redundant upon removal of a per machine installation.
Although deleting the remaining registry keys in a registry editor is a straightforward task, it should be executed with great care, as deleting or modifying the wrong registry keys and/or values may render other applications, or even the entire system, inoperable.
Therefore, if you feel uncomfortable making changes to the registry manually, there is an alternative, even if slightly slower and more tedious, method. This being, a per user installation (of LFNAlias Version 1.0) under the account from which the remnants are to be removed and the subsequent, immediate removal of the per user installation, as this will also reliably remove all remnants of the per machine installation (from that user account).

Normal De-Installation of an Administrative Installation
Even though removing the administrative installation itself requires no more than manually deleting several folders and files in Windows Explorer, the complete de-installation of the administrative installation and all dependent (per user and per machine) installations of LFNAlias Version 1.0 may involve a combination of various procedures.
1.  Uninstall or modify all per user (and/or per machine) installations, on all computers, that were performed under user accounts with access to the target folder of the administrative installation and that rely on the administrative installation's existence.
Dependent, secondary installations (of the administrative installation) are installations of LFNAlias Version 1.0 that were performed from the administrative installation with the "run from souce" option selected. Such installations do not copy all LFNAlias Version 1.0 files to the target computer and therefore depend on the administrative installation's files. Removing these files will prevent users from running LFNAlias Version 1.0 and opening other, LFNAlias Version 1.0 files.
However, the procedures for modifying or uninstalling these installations are (very) similar, in that they are both performed by selecting uninstall/remove/change (LFNAlias Version 1.0) in the Windows Control Panel's Software or Programs and Features folder and subsequently selecting the desired operation on the LFNAlias Version 1.0, Setup Wizard's first page. If the installation is to be modified instead of uninstalled, select "Modify" on this page and then select "(Entire feature) will be installed on local hard drive". If you want to remove LFNAlias Version 1.0, simply select "Remove".
2.  Delete the LFNAlias Version 1.0 folder in the SST folder of the target folder of the administrative installation (e.g. \\SAMPLESERVER\AdminInstallations\Programs\SST\LFNAlias Version 1.0).
3.  If no further folders or files exist in the SST folder, the SST folder (e.g. \\SAMPLESERVER\AdminInstallations\Programs\SST) may also be deleted.
4.  Finally, unless LFNAlias Version 1.0 shared the Programs folder (e.g. \\SAMPLESERVER\AdminInstallations\Programs) with other administrative installations or files, delete the Programs folder.
