Installation

This section describes in detail how to install the LFNAlias Version 1.0 application and the changes that are made to your system during installation. Specifically, this includes the requirements that must be met to successfully install the LFNAlias Version 1.0 application, a step by step installation guide, a list of the folders that are created, the files and shell links that are copied to your hard disk or created, and the file extensions that will be associated with the LFNAlias Version 1.0 application.

Preamble
Due to the various requirements made by the different Windows versions, security policies, and computer environments (e.g. stand-alone, networked, private, corporate, etc.) in which LFNAlias Version 1.0 can be used, as well as the diversity of the intents and purposes for installing LFNAlias, LFNAlias Version 1.0 may be made available and can therefore potentially be installed by means of several setup packages and methods. However, each setup package will consist of all components necessary to transfer and configure the software and accompanying documentation in such a manner that the installed software can subsequently be used under one or all user accounts. Although the setup packages will differ with respect to certain features, the method(s) of deployment, and the operating systems supported by the individual package, all packages will be based on and use Microsoft Installer technology to install the software (and documentation). This not only ensures that the software is installed, updated, and patched, by means of standardized, proven technology in a user friendly manner, but also, in the event that this may become necessary, repaired and/or reliably removed. Furthermore, we have supplemented these features by combining them with an executable component which enhances certain security and deployment aspects, while preserving the possibility to install LFNAlias Version 1.0 by means of the core, Microsoft Installer package (files), which, may also be made available as a separate package).
